Charlie Mulgrew "devastated" following Champions League exit

Mulgrew "devastated" following UCL exit

Celtic captain Charlie Mulgrew has admitted that he is feeling "devastated" after crashing out of the Champions League at the qualification stage.

The Hoops faced an uphill battle against Legia Warsaw last night following a comprehensive 4-1 defeat in the first leg of the tie.

Celtic's misery was compounded when their Polish opponents added two more unanswered goals to the scoreline last night to prevail 6-1 on aggregate.

"The whole pre-season was geared towards the Champions League," Mulgrew is quoted as saying by BT Sport. "We are not there now but we need to be as positive as we can.

"We never competed well enough. I'm not taking anything away from them but we could do a lot better. It takes time for the manager to bed things in but we are not using this as an excuse.

"It is up to us to respond to what he wants us to do and quickly. It is devastating but we all have to pick ourselves up quickly."

The Scottish Premiership outfit will now compete in the Europa League this season.
