Brighton & Hove Albion 3-0 Sheffield Wednesday

Brighton go to the top of the Championship table following a comfortable 3-0 win at home to Sheffield Wednesday.

Brighton & Hove Albion have gone to the top of the Championship table following a comfortable 3-0 win at home to Sheffield Wednesday.

The Seagulls had a great chance to take the lead on 15 minutes, but Will Buckley was denied by Wednesday goalkeeper Chris Kirkland after being put through on goal.

However, they took the lead 10 minutes later thanks to a slice of luck as Wayne Bridge's effort took two deflections before finding the net.

Jay Bothroyd had a decent chance for the visitors towards the end of the half, but his drive was headed over heroically by Gordon Greer.

Brighton's lead was doubled 10 minutes into the second half as Craig Mackail-Smith tapped in from close range.

The home fans only had to wait two minutes for their side to extend their advantage when Buckley lofted a delightful chip over Kirkland and into the net.

Buckley had the chance for a second goal soon after, but this time he was foiled by the fingertips of Kirkland.

Bothroyd had the chance to snatch a consolation goal for the Owls, but his header was saved at point-blank range from Tomasz Kuszczak.
