Brighton announce Garcia appointment

Brighton & Hove Albion have appointed Oscar Garcia to the newly-created head coach position at the club.

The 40-year-old, who had spells at Barcelona and Valencia during his playing career, will take up the role from tomorrow morning.

In a statement released by the club, Garcia said: "I am delighted to have the opportunity to work in English football for the first time. Brighton & Hove Albion is one of the most exciting and progressive clubs in the country."

Chairman Tony Bloom added: "We are delighted to have Oscar here to help us prepare for the new season and plan what promises to be another exciting campaign for the club."

Brighton announced that they had dismissed manager Gus Poyet at the weekend.
