Andreas Bjelland leaves Brentford after rejecting new contract

Denmark international defender Andreas Bjelland has left Brentford after rejecting a new contract.

The 29-year-old signed for the Bees from Dutch side FC Twente in 2015 in what was a club-record deal for the London outfit.

Although Bjelland saw his spell at Griffin Park hindered by injury, he played 35 games last season as the club finished ninth in the Championship, six points off the playoffs.

"We are all disappointed we could not agree a deal, as last season he had shown the quality he possesses," Brentford boss Dean Smith told the official club website.

Bjelland helped Denmark to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, but was left out of the final squad because of injury.
