How Borussia Dortmund could line up against Bayern Munich

How Dortmund could line up against Bayern

Borussia Dortmund coach Marco Rose will once again work around a depleted squad for Tuesday's DFL-Supercup clash with Bayern Munich.

The Black and Yellow lost Julian Brandt and Thomas Meunier to positive coronavirus tests earlier this month, with the latter and Mateu Morey's absences likely seeing Felix Passlack enjoy another start at right-back, despite his highly unfortunate own goal against Eintracht Frankfurt.

On the other side of the defence, Raphael Guerreiro remains sidelined with a calf problem and Marcel Schmelzer is still recovering from a long-term knee injury, so Nico Schulz is under no pressure for the left-back spot.

Former Bayern defender Mats Hummels is now being put through his paces in training following a niggling tendon injury, but the Super Cup is expected to come too soon for him, meaning another makeshift centre-back pairing of Manuel Akanji and Axel Witsel.

Emre Can was thought to have had a good chance of being involved against Frankfurt but was nowhere to be seen on the opening weekend, while Dan-Axel Zagadou and Soumaila Coulibaly complete no fewer than eight defensive absentees for Dortmund.

Rose has no such problems in the middle of the field, where Jude Bellingham, Mahmoud Dahoud and Giovanni Reyna - who scored his side's fourth against Frankfurt - will all hope to continue.

Thorgan Hazard and Marco Reus also opened their accounts for the season in Saturday's 5-2 thrashing of Die Adler, but Erling Braut Haaland stole the show with two goals and three assists before facing one of his many admirers.

However, Hazard has now been ruled out of this contest with an ankle injury, so Donyell Malen could make his Super Cup debut.

Dortmund possible starting lineup: Kobel; Passlack, Witsel, Akanji, Schulz; Bellingham, Dahoud, Reyna; Malen, Haaland, Reus
