Tim Sherwood: 'Premier League survival still in Aston Villa's hands'

Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood insists that the team's Premier League survival is still in their own hands despite a 6-1 thrashing at the hands of Southampton.

Tim Sherwood has insisted that Aston Villa's Premier League status is still in their own hands despite their thrashing at Southampton earlier today.

Villa were beaten 6-1 by the Saints, with Sadio Mane scoring the fastest ever Premier League hat-trick in the first half to leave Villa just outside of the relegation zone.

Their manager told BBC Sport: "We've done brilliant over the past couple of months that's why we can't get too carried away. It's a defeat and a heavy defeat. It's happened, we need to wipe our mouths and get on with it.

"I have always said it will go right down to the wire and I believe it will. It's still in our hands. We had one foot in the Championship when I arrived and we have one foot in the Premier League now and we need to keep that foot in the Premier League."

Villa will face already-relegated Burnley in their final match of the season next Sunday.
