Brentford vs. Aston Villa: Unai Emery's side looking to extend Premier League record, buck trend in Bees fixture

Aston Villa looking to extend Premier League record, buck trend in Brentford fixture

Aston Villa will be looking to extend a club Premier League record when they square off against Brentford on Saturday afternoon.

Unai Emery is still bidding to significantly strengthen his squad before the end of the summer transfer window, which closes on September 1.

Villa's performance during the goalless draw with Newcastle United last weekend made it clear that additions are required if they want to challenge for Champions League qualification.

For the time being, however, the Spaniard must work with the players at his disposal as he looks to extend Villa's unbeaten start to the campaign.

Ahead of their trip to the Gtech Community Stadium this weekend, history appears to be in Villa's favour as they look to prolong a streak over their hosts.

History in Villa's favour against Brentford

In eight Premier League matches between these two teams, Brentford have never recorded a clean sheet against Villa.

A total of 16 goals have been conceded during that period, while Villa are also unbeaten in the six most recent top-flight matches between the clubs.

Brentford last recorded a victory over Villa on January 2, 2022 when they came from behind on home territory to prevail by a 2-1 scoreline.

Ollie Watkins will be facing his former club and the England international has netted on each of his last two visits to this stadium.

Still reasons for Brentford to be hopeful...

Brentford do hold a notable feat in their favour, however, with the West Londoners having never lost their opening home game in a top-flight season.

Seven wins and two draws have been posted in such fixtures at a time when Villa are looking to avoid failing to score in three successive Premier League matches for the first time since July 2020.

Furthermore, Villa are looking to avoid having a player sent off in three Premier League games in a row for the first time in their history.
