AS Cannes vs. Guingamp - prediction, team news, lineups

The only quarter-finals clash in this season's Coupe de France featuring two non-top-flight teams sees AS Cannes welcome Guingamp in midweek with a place in the last four at stake.

The hosts, currently competing in the fourth tier, take on the visitors from Ligue 2 in what will be their first meeting since they last crossed paths at this same stage of the competition in 2014.

Match preview

This clash carries a sense of deja vu for Cannes, who reached the quarter-finals of the French Cup after edging Dives-Cabourg in a thrilling 5-3 contest at Stade Pierre de Coubertin.

With almost everything aligning – same stage, same venue – Les Dragons will, however, be determined to script a different outcome this time, as their encounter 11 years ago with this Tuesday's opponents ended in a 2-0 defeat.

That was the last time Cannes made it to the last eight of the competition, while they have progressed beyond this phase only once in their history – during the 1992-93 season when the Dragons faced Monaco in the semi-finals.

Replicating that feat does not appear an insurmountable task for Damien Ott's men, who have made their home ground a fortress against Ligue 2 sides in this tournament, seeing off Grenoble and Lorient – before dispatching Dives in the round of 16.

Indeed, Cannes are in scintillating form, with those triumphs extending their remarkable unbeaten run to 17 matches, comprising 13 wins and four draws, the latest being a 2-1 success over Saint-Priest in the league last weekend.

Meanwhile, Guingamp have hit a rough patch in recent weeks, going without a victory in their last two Ligue 2 outings, suffering a humbling 3-0 defeat at home to Metz before salvaging a point in a 1-1 draw at Grenoble.

This is a setback for the Costamoricans, who had previously built momentum with back-to-back wins, edging Ajaccio in the league after stunning top-flight side Toulouse 2-0 in the Coupe de France to reach this stage.

While Guingamp are seeking their first French Cup semi-final berth since the 2016-17 season, they boast fond memories of this competition, having gone all the way in 2014.

Following their quarter-finals triumph over Cannes that year, EAG marched on to lift the trophy for the second time in their history, a nostalgic feat Sylvain Ripoll's side will be eager to emulate as they chase another memorable run in the tournament.

Team News

Cannes will once again look to Julien Domingues for goals, with the winger striking nine times in five Coupe de France outings this season.

The 29-year-old could be partnered up front by Jonathan Mambu in a two-man attack, just as they lined up in their victory over Dives.

Sabri Guendouz has been instrumental for Guingamp in this competition, netting four goals in as many appearances, though he remained an unused substitute in the win against Toulouse.

The Frenchman could reclaim his spot on the flanks in a three-man advanced midfield, featuring Amine Hemia in the centre and Hugo Picard on the opposite side.

Striker Jacques Siwe made a 30-minute cameo against Toulouse after recovering from an abductor issue that had sidelined him since mid-January, putting him in contention with Brighton Labeau for a starting berth in the number nine role.

AS Cannes possible starting lineup: Vanni; Vinci, Smith, Pineau; Trinker; C Goncalves, Fischer, Hafidi, N'Diaye; Mambu, Domingues

Guingamp possible starting lineup: Niasse; Sissoko, Gomis, Nair, Ourega; Louiserre, Phiri; Guendouz, Hermia, Picard; Labeau

We say: AS Cannes 1-2 Guingamp

Given Cannes' remarkable form, this clash promises to be tightly contested, but Guingamp's pedigree in the competition and experience at a higher level could give them the slight edge when it matters most.
