Arsenal, Aston Villa want El Shenawy?

Arsenal and Aston Villa are both reportedly interested in signing Egypt goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy.

The 30-year-old currently plays for Egyptian side Al Ahly and it is said that he would cost any potential suitors £2.5m.

A report from Nile Sports says that Arsenal are interested in making El Shenawy their second-choice goalkeeper behind Bernd Leno for the upcoming campaign.

Gunners boss Unai Emery is said to want him to provide competition for the place between the sticks following the retirement of Petr Cech and David Ospina's exit to Napoli.

El Shenawy, who has been capped 14 times by Egypt, played in the African Cup of Nations over the summer and was watched at the tournament by Villa manager Dean Smith.

The Birmingham Mail says that Smith liked what he saw and is interested in adding him to the list of nine signings he has already made this summer, which includes El Shenawy's Egypt international teammate Trezeguet.
