Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has hailed Reading boss Brian McDermott as a 'miracle-worker' after he led the Royals to promotion last season.

Reading won the Championship to earn promotion to the Premier League and despite McDermott's men not registering a victory in the league this season, Wenger is impressed with the job that the former Arsenal midfielder has done at the Madejski Stadium.

Wenger told Arsenal Media: "Reading have made appointments from within the club well over the years.

"You have to congratulate Brian McDermott for promotion last year, I believe he made a miracle basically."

Arsenal visit Reading on Tuesday night with both teams vying for a place in the League Cup quarter-finals.
