Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger: 'Mesut Ozil is at the right club'

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger insists that Mesut Ozil is at the "right club", but the German is yet to agree a new deal.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has urged Mesut Ozil to sign a new contract at the club by claiming that the German playmaker is "in the right place".

Ozil's future has dominated the headlines of late given that both he and Alexis Sanchez come to the end of their current contracts when the 2017-18 season finishes.

It was reported earlier this month that talks over fresh terms hit a stumbling block as both players demanded significant pay rises.

After a difficult start to his Arsenal career when he signed from Real Madrid in 2013, Ozil has become a pivotal part of Wenger's team and scored his first ever hat-trick in a 6-0 thumping over Ludogorets Razgrad in the Champions League on Wednesday.

When asked in Friday's press conference for an update on contract talks, Wenger said: "We are in touch and that is our desire.

"Ozil is 28 and is in the prime of his career. We want him to contribute to the club's future. I believe he is in the right place."

The Gunners are currently second in the Premier League table, level on points with leaders Manchester City.
