Half-Time Report: Santi Cazorla, Danny Welbeck on target for Arsenal

Cazorla, Welbeck on target for Arsenal

Arsenal scored twice in the final five minutes of the first half to take a 2-0 lead over West Ham United in the Premier League this afternoon.

Alex Song thought that he had given the home side the lead just six minutes into the match at Upton Park when he volleyed in from long range, but several West Ham players were offside, and the referee ruled that they were in the keeper's view and chalked the goal off.

West Ham continued to look the more likely in the early stages as Cheikhou Kouyate stole the ball in midfield before unleashing a shot, but he could not get the better of Wojciech Szczesny.

Laurent Koscielny was tested on his return to action as he came up against Andy Carroll, but he made a block to keep out the striker's powerful effort.

Despite the home side's dominance, it was Arsenal who broke the deadlock when a quick break from Santi Cazorla resulted in Winston Reid charging into him in the box, and the Spaniard fired in from the penalty spot.

The visitors needed just over two minutes to double their lead as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain crossed the ball in for Danny Welbeck, leaving the England international with a tap in at the far past.
