Preview: Arsenal Women vs. Everton Ladies - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Sunday's Women's Super League clash between Arsenal Women and Everton Ladies, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Women's Super League leaders Arsenal Women welcome Everton Ladies to Borehamwood on Sunday, when they will be aiming for their fifth consecutive WSL victory to remain at the summit of the top flight.

Everton's form has picked up in recent weeks, after two 4-0 defeats against Manchester City and Chelsea, and Willie Kirk's side are going in hunt of their third win in a row this weekend.

Arsenal are the top scorers in the WSL so far this season, and they demonstrated their attacking flair last weekend when they travelled to Villa Park where they faced Aston Villa.

The home side had managed to prevent the Gunners from finding a breakthrough before half time, but Jonas Eidevall's side were comfortable 4-0 winners in the end, with their goals coming from Mana Iwabuchi, Katie McCabe and a double from Kim Little.

However, despite a perfect start to their domestic season, Arsenal's Champions League campaign did not follow suit on Tuesday when they travelled to face the European champions, Barcelona.

Frida Maanum did score for the Gunners in the 74th minute, but it turned out to only be a consolation goal as Barcelona ran out as 4-1 winners in Group C.

There is not much doubt that Arsenal can bounce back from their midweek disappointment, and they will be determined to maintain their lead over other title contenders such as Chelsea, also not wanting to drop points and give rivals Tottenham Hotspur the opportunity to go top of the table.

Everton have started to find the form which will help them achieve their season goals of finishing in the top three, scoring six goals in their last two outings.

On Sunday, the Toffees were rewarded for a quick start at the Select Car Leasing Stadium, where Anna Anvegard gave the visitors a second-minute lead against Reading, before Claire Emslie and Danielle Turner sealed the 3-0 win before half time.

Kirk's side dominated possession of the ball against the Royals, and that followed on from a dominant performance against Birmingham a week earlier.

Everton are unlikely to see more of the ball against Arsenal, but if they want to finish in the top three come the end of the season, it is likely that they will need to beat a title contender, so Kirk will need to set his team up with organised tactics to be the first English side to take points from the Gunners this campaign.

Goalkeeper Sandy MacIver earned her first clean sheet of the season, but she will need the help of her back four to stop a free-flowing Arsenal side from scoring, with the home side having netted at least three times per league game this season.

Team News

Carlotte Wubben-Moy started Arsenal's last WSL game on Sunday but Leah Williamson is certain to come back into the starting lineup this weekend after featuring in the Champions League in midweek.

New signing Tobin Heath has not started for Arsenal since arriving at the club in September, but she could come into the lineup in a front three along with Vivianne Miedema and Beth Mead.

Lia Walti, Little and Maanum have all started every league game this season, and they will make up the midfield unit and hope to add to their five goals between them across all competitions this campaign.

Everton forward Anvegard will be pleased to have got off the mark for her new club last time out, and she is likely to lead the line for the visitors this weekend, with Emslie and Toni Duggan alongside her.

Just like Arsenal's midfield trio, Everton's central three of Kenza Dali, Aurora Galli and Izzy Christiansen have all featured in every game this season and they will start on Sunday.

Arsenal Women possible starting lineup:
Zinsberger; Catley, Beattie, Williamson, Maritz; Maanum, Little, Walti; Heath, Miedema, Mead

Everton Ladies possible starting lineup:
MacIver; Turner, George, Sevecke, Maier; Christiansen, Galli, Dali; Duggan, Anvegard, Emslie

We say: Arsenal Women 2-1 Everton Ladies

Eidevall will be looking for a positive reaction from his players after Tuesday's defeat against Barcelona, and they will enter most games, if not every game this season, as favourites, including this one.

Everton will be confident after their last two results, but Arsenal pose a different challenge. The Toffees are expected to make it difficult for the home side, but they are unlikely to be able to stop the Gunners from collecting another three points.
