Brazil win dramatic Superclasico

Brazil have won the Superclasico following a dramatic victory on penalties over Argentina at La Bombonera in Buenos Aires.

Mano Menezes's side had clinched the first leg 2-1, but a 2-1 triumph for the Argentines in the second leg forced the contest to a battle from the spot.

A dull first half briefly came alive when Neymar went on a dynamic run through the heart of the Argentine midfield. However, he was thwarted on the edge of the box before he could play in a teammate.

The best chance of the opening 45 minutes came the hosts' way soon after as the lively Juan Martinez guided his header inches wide of the post.

They were awarded a spot kick with 10 minutes left to play when Martinez was tripped on the edge of the area. Debutant Ignacio Scocco made no mistake with the penalty as he rifled the ball home.

Brazil were level on the night but ahead on aggregate in the 84th minute as Fred was on hand to guide the ball home at the back post.

However, there was a late twist as Scocco confidently finished off a counter attack in the final minute to take the match to a penalty shootout.

Despite Argentina's late heroics, they missed twice from the spot as Neymar converted the winning kick in a 4-3 win.
