Nathan Cameron header takes Bury past Accrington Stanley

Nathan Cameron scores a late header as Bury beat Accrington Stanley 1-0 to climb into the playoff places in League Two.

Nathan Cameron scored a late winner as Bury climbed into the playoff places with a 1-0 victory over Accrington Stanley this evening.

Accrington were put on the back foot for the majority of the first half, despite creating the first opportunity of the match when Andrew Procter tested Tom Pope with a powerful strike.

Matt Macey was forced to make a number of vital contributions as Bury tested the Accrington goalkeeper with a flurry of crosses from both wings, but his only key save in the opening 45 minutes was to keep out Hallam Hope, who had linked up well with Danny Mayor in the box.

It was the form of Pope which kept Bury on level terms early in the second half as he got a vital hand to a Piero Mongoia effort before rushing off his line to deny Kal Naismith.

Both sides appeared keen to get onto the front foot, but chances were rare despite extended spells of pressure at both ends of the pitch.

However, the breakthrough would finally arrive with nine minutes of normal time remaining as Cameron lost his marker inside the box to head home the winner from a free kick.
