Ekaterina Makarova defeats Sachia Vickery to advance at Wimbledon

Ekaterina Makarova clinches her place in the second round of Wimbledon by defeating America's Sachia Vickery in straight sets.

Number eight seed Ekaterina Makarova has secured her place in the second round of Wimbledon courtesy of a straight-sets win over America's Sachia Vickery.

The Russian had a strong start to the match as she was dominant on her serve and carved out two break points to secure the first set 6-2.

Vickery responded in the second with an early break to take a 3-0 lead, but Makarova came roaring back into the match with two breaks of her own to take the set 6-4 and clinch her place in the next stage of the competition.

The 27-year-old will face either Karin Knapp or Magdalena Rybarikova in the second round.
