Sarah Menezes of Brazil has claimed the Olympic gold medal in 48 kilogram Judo, beating defending champion Alina Dumitru.
Second-ranked Menezes beat the Romanian in a tight final, which saw both fighters on the defensive.
Neither managed to dominate the fight, with both adopting a cautious approach in the Olympic final. However, Menezes came in with a crucial scoring throw with less than a minute left to hand her a late advantage.
Menezes, who finished 19th at the Beijing Olympics, was awarded the gold medal.
