Preview: Wycombe Wanderers vs. Walsall - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's FA Cup clash between Wycombe Wanderers and Walsall, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Wycombe Wanderers will look to end a three-game winless run when they face Walsall in the first round of the FA Cup on Saturday.

The visitors, meanwhile, will be aiming to record a third consecutive victory in all competitions after beating Harrogate Town and Rochdale in their previous two games.

Wycombe have only lost one of their last seven games, but they head into Saturday's contest without a win in three matches.

After losing to Cambridge United, the Chairboys have played out consecutive draws against Morecambe and Port Vale, leaving them in 12th place in League One.

In their most recent encounter against Port Vale, they took the lead on two occasions thanks to goals from Anis Mehmeti and Lewis Wing, but they ultimately had to settle for a 2-2 draw.

As they turn their attention to a fourth consecutive home game, Wycombe will be looking to improve upon their recent form at Adams Park with a place in the FA Cup second round at stake.

However, three first round exits in the last four seasons suggest that Wycombe have their work cut out to record a victory on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Walsall will attempt to extend their unbeaten to four matches after enjoying a positive run of form in League Two.

Following a 1-1 draw against Sutton United, the Saddlers claimed consecutive victories in their home meetings with Harrogate Town and Rochdale.

A first-half effort from Hayden White proved enough to guide Walsall to a 1-0 win over Rochdale that represented their fourth consecutive home league victory.

While they have fared well home turf, Michael Flynn's side are winless in their last eight away games in all competitions.

Although they have struggled on their travels, Walsall will take confidence from the fact that they have progressed to the second round of the FA Cup in three of the last four seasons.

Team News

Jack Grimmer and Joe Jacobson could come into the Wycombe side for Saturday's contest, with Ainsworth expected to make a number of changes.

There may also be a place in the starting XI for Daryl Horgan, while Garath McCleary is in contention for a recall after dropping down to the bench against Port Vale.

Sam Vokes could retain his place up front, and the 33-year-old will be looking to add to the three goals that he has scored this season.

As for the visitors, they will be without the services of Conor Wilkinson, who is currently sidelined with an injury issue.

White scored the winner for Walsall last weekend, but his main priority will be on his defensive duties, and he is expected to be joined in a back three by Manny Monthe and Donervon Daniels.

With Flynn set to name an unchanged lineup, Tom Knowles will continue his forward partnership with Walsall's topscorer Danny Johnson.

Wycombe Wanderers possible starting lineup:
Stryjek; Grimmer, Mawson, Jacobson; McCarthy, Freeman, Horgan, Wing, Obita; McCleary, Mehmeti, Vokes

Walsall possible starting lineup:
Evans; White, Monthe, Daniels; Bennett, Kinsella, Maddox, Gordon; Hutchinson; Johnson, Knowles

We say: Wycombe Wanderers 2-1 Walsall

Although Wycombe are winless in their last three matches, we think that they will edge out a Walsall side that are winless in their previous eight away games.
