Sasa Kalajdzic is reportedly on the brink of sealing a loan transfer away from Wolverhampton Wanderers on Friday.
Having suffered a serious knee injury - his third in five years - in February 2024, it took until this summer for the 28-year-old to return to the pitch.
Kalajdzic successfully made a number of substitute appearances during pre-season and made an impact in the comeback 3-2 victory over West Ham United in the EFL Cup second round last month.
However, despite also featuring against Everton four days later, it quickly became apparent that the Austria international would be removed from the squad to accommodate the arrival of big-money signing Tolu Arokodare.
That is a consequence of Wolves already having too many foreign players in their Premier League squad, essentially leaving Kalajdzic to await offers from elsewhere.
Kalajdzic on brink of Austria move
According to Krone, Kalajdzic will be signing for LASK Linz on loan if he passes a medical on Friday.
The Austrian transfer window closes over the coming hours and the Bundesliga side are seemingly eager to help Kalajdzic kick-start his career.
Kalajdzic is allegedly already in the country as he bids to seal a transfer to a team who could only finish in seventh place last season.
LASK, who were playing main-stage Europa League football as recently as 2023-24, have endured a poor start to this campaign, sitting 11th out of 12 teams after five matches.
If LASK are to finalise a deal for Kalajdzic, it is stressed that Wolves would need to cover a large portion of his wages.
Perfect move for Kalajdzic?
The aim for Kalajdzic throughout 2025-26 will be to stay fit having been restricted to just 23 appearances since the start of 2022-23.
He seems in line to play in his homeland for the first time since 2018-19, when he was representing Admira Wacker.
With two years left on his Wolves contract, there remains scope for him to return to Molineux next season if he can enjoy a productive campaign.
That said, it feels more likely that Kalajdzic's three-year spell with Wolves is coming to an end with three goals and one assist from his 16 appearances, accumulating just 350 minutes of football after a £15m transfer.
