Wolverhampton Wanderers reportedly enquire about the availability of a Colombian midfielder due to formally sign for a Championship club.

Wolverhampton Wanderers reportedly hold an interest in a player who is due to join Hull City on a permanent basis.

Despite having suffered back-to-back defeats in the Premier League, Wolves have already secured their top-flight status for another 12 months with Vitor Pereira making a positive impact at Molineux.

A certain level of focus can now be turned to the summer transfer window where Wolves are expected to have funds available, partly aided by the sale of Matheus Cunha who has a £62.5m release clause in his contract.

In recent markets, Wolves have made a conscious effort to add South American players to their squad, mainly from Brazil to complement the Portuguese-speaking personnel at the club.

As per Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra, who is commenting on X, it is a player from his native country on this occasion who may soon be heading to Wolves.

Wolves to move for Hull star?

Sierra suggests that Wolves have already enquired over the availability of Gustavo Puerta, who will join Hull City on a permanent basis this summer.

The 21-year-old had initially been on a loan spell from Bayer Leverkusen with the Bundesliga giants agreeing to allow the Tigers to possess a purchase option.

Last month, Hull confirmed that the option was being activated with Puerta having made 22 starts and eight substitute outings in the Championship during 2024-25.

Under Ruben Selles, he has been a regular in the side, and the current plan is for Puerta to have a major part to play in the 2025-26 campaign at the MKM Stadium.

Nevertheless, Wolves are seemingly interested in acquiring his services, providing Hull with a chance to make a quick profit on a player who can play in any role in central midfield.

What may Wolves need to pay?

A previous report has suggested that Puerta possesses a £15m release clause in his contract, it currently unclear whether Wolves would be prepared to go that high.

Puerta made a total of 10 appearances during his time at Leverkusen, accumulating a total of 229 minutes under Xabi Alonso in 2023-24, but 178 minutes came across two Europa League dead-rubbers against Hacken and Molde.

Andre and Joao Gomes are the current standout first-choice engine room options for Pereira, with Jean-Ricner Bellegarde and Marshall Munetsi alternatives.

However, with Tommy Doyle expected to leave courtesy of not fitting into Pereira's style of football, a space could open up for a player such as Puerta.
