Wolves transfer news: Juventus defender 'attracting interest' from Vitor Pereira, Newcastle United

Premier League duo 'enquire' for emerging Italian right-back

Wolverhampton Wanderers and Newcastle are reportedly interested in signing a Juventus defender before the end of the summer transfer window.

Both the West Midlands and North-East outfits have endured frustrating periods in the market with targeted players having consistently shown preference to other clubs.

Most recently, Wolves have seen right-sided Sevilla player Juanlu Sanchez move to the brink of signing for Napoli, while the Magpies appear likely to miss out on RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko to Manchester United.

As a result, both teams are expected to be proactive over the coming weeks, Wolves, in particular, increasingly eager to sign a new right-sided defender.

According to Italian journalist Mirko Di Natale, who was commenting on X, the aforementioned clubs are admirers of Nicolo Savona.

Savona attracting Premier League attention

The report claims that each team have already enquired about the availability of the 22-year-old.

After coming through the Juventus youth setup, Savona was promoted under Thiago Motta at the start of last season and went on to make 40 appearances in all competitions.

Included in that were 28 outings in Serie A and three appearances at the Club World Cup, Savona starting each group game before missing the last-16 tie with Real Madrid through injury.

If either Wolves or Newcastle make a formal approach, they are likely to be faced with a battle to tempt Juventus into a sale or Savona into leaving Turin.

As well as the player being associated with Juventus since the age of eight, he also has five years remaining on his contract.

Juventus will realistically only consider a sale if an offer is too attractive to turn down, still aware of the financial benefits that would come with cashing in on a homegrown talent.

Is Savona ready for a Premier League transfer?

With just one year of top-flight football under his belt, Savona would ideally gain more Serie A experience before contemplating a transfer.

Something which is worth noting is Juventus only suffering one Serie A defeat when he played some part of a match, that being a 2-1 loss to champions Napoli.

Wolves would make him first-choice should he make the transfer to Molineux, but he would be behind Tino Livramento if he became a Newcastle player.

Therefore, he may insist on staying put for the foreseeable future, his aim being to break into the Italy squad for the 2026 World Cup, assuming that his nation eventually qualify.
