Wolverhampton Wanderers head coach Vitor Pereira has revealed how many new signings that he is expecting to be added to his first-team squad.
With Nelson Semedo, Rayan Ait-Nouri, Pablo Sarabia and Matheus Cunha among eight senior players to depart Molineux, Pereira has been expecting them to be replaced.
However, Wolves have currently only made three signings ahead of their Premier League opener against Manchester City on Saturday evening.
David Moller Wolfe has been acquired to replace Ait-Nouri at left wing-back, while Fer Lopez and Jhon Arias are viewed as creative options and have essentially taken the spots of Sarabia and Cunha.
Nevertheless, Pereira's squad has been left drastically short, even with Wolves owners Fosun International making at least a £40m net-profit and heavily reducing the wage bill.
Pereira suggests how many new Wolves signings could be made
In an interview with the club's official website, Pereira was quizzed on the rebuilding process that is currently being undertaken with his squad.
The Portuguese responded by suggesting that as many as new three signings could be made between now and the September 1 deadline.
Pereira said: "I’m positive and I’m excited because this is the best league in the world, and, for me, it’s a pleasure to be here. In football, each season is a new season. You always need to reinvent yourself because we’ll face different challenges. We need to rebuild our identity, to reinforce our identity, and this will take some time.
“We have some new players and I’m expecting another one or two or three, and the club is working on that, so we’ll see, as I cannot say now that we are at our best level, we still need to have time for this.
“But this is the magic that I need in my life to work; to create every time, to express my creativity because I like to create new things. For me, each season is a chance for me to create, to rebuild and to express myself so I can help my team. This is the butterflies and the passion that I feel.
“We are building what our idea of football is. I’m happy with my players and we are working hard to improve the level, but every day we need to improve ourselves. We need to be stronger when defending and attacking and I believe in our work, and I believe in the squad."
Would three signings be enough?
Most Wolves supporters will argue that more than three fresh faces are required to give the club the best chance of remaining in the Premier League.
Right wing-back is a position of concern with Ki-Jana Hoever, who has not played a competitive game for Wolves since 2021-22, currently viewed as first choice ahead of 19-year-old Pedro Lima.
More competition is required for central midfield with Andre and Joao Gomes the standout established duo, and the likes of Marshall Munetsi and Jean-Ricner Bellegarde viewed as backup even though they are also regarded as number 10 options.
Pereira also needs someone to challenge Jorgen Strand Larsen for the number nine role. Both Hwang Hee-chan and Sasa Kalajdzic have been linked with exits.
