Wolverhampton Wanderers head coach Vitor Pereira has revealed his frustration over the club's activity in the summer transfer window.
Having impressively moved Wolves away from the Premier League relegation zone during the second half of 2024-25, Pereira is eager to establish the club in the mid-table positions.
However, despite the exits of Nelson Semedo, Rayan Ait-Nouri, Pablo Sarabia and Matheus Cunha, the West Midlands outfit have only signed Celta Vigo prospect Fer Lopez.
On a positive note, Fluminense playmaker Jhon Arias is due to arrive at Molineux over the coming days having waved goodbye to the Brazilian team's fans on Thursday night.
Nevertheless, that has not stopped Pereira from publicly acknowledging that he needs more players to be added to his senior ranks as soon as possible.
Pereira hopes Wolves officials "understand"
During the club's pre-season tour of Portugal, Pereira has spoken to local media and voiced that he was uneasy over the lack of signings with less than a month remaining until the start of the Premier League.
As relayed by O Jogo, Pereira said: "A relationship has been created, a relationship that I hope will continue and I hope the club understands that it needs to meet the expectations of the fans, because expectations are being created, naturally, and we need reinforcements, we need to be competitive.”
He added: "My ambition is to be mid-table and not always worry about the bottom spots. I want to look up. But right now, we’ve lost Cunha, we’ve lost Aït-Nouri, one to Manchester United and one to Manchester City, two very important players for us.
"I want to prepare a team to start the championship competitively, but at this point, that hasn’t been possible. I hope that in the coming days there will be news about bringing in players to improve the quality of the squad.”
Would Pereira consider Wolves exit?
At this point, Pereira is committed to the Wolves project and his comments are out of justified frustration rather than him angling for an exit.
However, this is a manager who has had 11 jobs since 2011 and has lasted 30 games or fewer at three of his previous four clubs.
Given the money raised from player sales since the end of 2023-24, Wolves should be in a position to make several notable signings, particularly players with experience given the senior figures that have left the club.
As a result, Fosun International need to deliver over the final six weeks of the market, most supporters feeling that Pereira is the best man for the job at the present time if he is backed in the transfer window.
