Michael Jacobs brace inspires Wolverhampton Wanderers to Brentford win

Wolverhampton Wanderers move level with Leyton Orient at the top of League One by beating promotion rivals Brentford 3-0 at Griffin Park this afternoon.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have moved level on points with Leyton Orient at the summit of League One with a 3-0 win over Brentford at Griffin Park.

James Henry and a double from Michael Jacobs helped them to the three points which see Wolves move second on goals scored and the Bees slip outside the automatic promotion places, losing their 19-game unbeaten streak in the process.

It took the best part of 30 minutes for either side to forge a goalscoring opportunity and it came for the visitors. Nouha Dicko went close by forcing David Button into a smart save before Jacobs's attempt to fire the rebound was thwarted by defender Tony Craig.

Mark Warburton's troops responded positively to the threat of concession and nearly edged ahead minutes later through Jonathan Douglas, who found himself unmarked at the back post, but his goal-bound effort was deflected over by Danny Batth.

The visitors went ahead on the stroke of half time through Henry, who nestled Kevin McDonald's cut-back pass into the top corner.

Jacobs, who scored twice in the 2-0 win over Notts County last time out, found the net this week on 70 minutes, sliding his effort beneath the advancing Button before grabbing his second brace in seven days to put the result beyond doubt in the closing stages.
