Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-0 Leicester City: Highlights, man of the match, stats as Jamie Vardy's Foxes stunned by Cunha show

Matheus Cunha masterclass devastates Jamie Vardy's dream Leicester sendoff

Leicester City's Premier League strife continued on Saturday despite already being relegated as they fell to their 25th defeat of the season in a 3-0 loss against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux.

Vitor Pereira's side may not have set the world alight with their first half display, but star man Matheus Cunha's 33rd-minute strike was enough to send the hosts into the break with an advantage after a 45 in which the Foxes had only mustered one shot on target.

Visiting boss Ruud Van Nistelrooy made three substitutions ahead of the second period, bringing on Kasey McAteer, James Justin and Oliver Skipp, but Wolves doubled their lead just 11 minutes after the restart through Jorgen Strand Larsen.

As part of Leicester's painful end to the campaign, legendary striker Jamie Vardy announced that he would be leaving the club, and to make matters worse, he missed a penalty almost 20 minutes from time that could have got his team back into the game.

Cunha helped to secure the three points for Wolves when he was once again the provider late on for Rodrigo Gomes's goal, setting up a simple finish after some fine work one-on-one against Conor Coady.

SPORTS MOLE'S VERDICT

Wolves have now won six games on the bounce and are ending the season in spectacular form, after battling for survival mere weeks ago and winning just four of the previous 13 across all competitions.

Cunha was the standout performer once again for the hosts, and despite his antics, he will be missed at Molineux should he depart in the upcoming transfer window as has been rumoured.

As for Leicester, they may have been relegated following their loss against Liverpool, but their torment is not yet over, and they are now winless in their last 12, 11 of which have ended in defeat.

Club legend Jamie Vardy is two goals away from making the 200 mark for the Foxes, but having missed a penalty today, his chances of reaching that figure before he departs seem slim considering that Van Nistelrooy's men have only scored in two of their last 12 matches.

WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS VS. LEICESTER CITY HIGHLIGHTS

33rd min: Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-0 Leicester City (Matheus Cunha)

Cunha plays a one-two with Rayan Ait Nouri just inside the Leicester half, and the left-back drives forward before finding his teammate once again on the edge of the six-yard box, where the star man makes no mistake and puts Wolves in front.

56th min: Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-0 Leicester City (Jorgen Strand Larsen)

Wolves break down the left flank through Cunha, and the Brazilian slides an excellent through ball to Strand Larsen between four Leicester players, and the striker slots into the bottom-left corner from near the penalty spot.

72nd min: Jamie Vardy (Leicester City) missed penalty

The veteran goalscorer won the penalty himself after being fouled by Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa, but his spot kick was poor and ended up a simple save for the shot stopper.

85th min: Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-0 Leicester City (Rodrigo Gomes)

Cunha is played through with a pass to the left flank, and the forward squares up last-man-back Coady before laying the ball on a plate for Gomes to fire home with a first-time finish into the bottom-left corner.

MAN OF THE MATCH - MATHEUS CUNHA

Scoring the opening goal as well as setting up Strand Larsen and Gomes for the following two, Cunha was the difference maker once again for Wolves as he has been all season long.

The talismanic forward has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United in the summer, but the Molineux faithful will be thankful that he was able to guide them to safety during a difficult campaign.
