Wolverhampton Wanderers announce that they have been forced to withdraw from their scheduled pre-season tour of South Korea.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have announced that they will not be proceeding with their pre-season tour of South Korea.

Last month, the Premier League outfit revealed that they had arranged to travel to Asia to play two fixtures as part of their schedule for the new season.

Matches were arranged against each of Celtic and Roma respectively, with the games on July 26 and July 29 taking place at the 44,301-capacity Suwon World Cup Stadium and 29,465-capacity Incheon Asiad Stadium.

The announcement of the tour was particularly significant due to Hwang Hee-chan, one of South Korea's most famous players, being able to represent Wolves in his homeland and the club looking to boost their reputation in that part of the world.

However, the West Midlands side released a statement on Thursday to reveal that they would no longer be making the trip due to 'numerous financial and logistical obligations' not being met by the tour's promoter.

Wolves say that they have opted to terminate the contract that they had in place due to 'weeks of delays' and tickets yet to be put on sale for either of the aforementioned matches.

General manager for marketing and commercial growth Russell Jones told the club's official website: "I feel incredibly disappointed that we're not going to be able to fulfil the commitments that we made in South Korea this summer, not only for our partners and suppliers, but, of course for Hee Chan and all of our fans.

"We are absolutely gutted to not be going to Korea. We're all devastated because we had so many different things planned for supporters that we're now not going to be able to fulfil.

"To the supporters in Korea, we want reiterate to you that we are committed to the Korean market and we hope to find a way to demonstrate that to you, in spite of the disappointing news about the upcoming tour and matches."

Wolves say that they will now put together a revised tour of a European nation, which will be announced in due course.
