Wolves sack Mick McCarthy

Wolverhampton Wanderers have confirmed the sacking of manager Mick McCarthy.

The former Sunderland boss has had his contract terminated following yesterday's crushing 5-1 defeat at the hands of West Bromwich Albion, which caused a chorus of boos around Molineux.

The under-fire manager claimed today that he would not walk away from his post. However, the board have decided that the 53-year-old is not the right man to revive Wolves' Premier League campaign.

The West Midlands club have only picked up 14 points in their last 22 games, which has dropped them into the relegation zone and into a battle to stay in the top flight.

The club have stated that Terry Connor will take charge of the team until a replacement coach is appointed.
