Wigan Athletic reject Leicester City bid for James McArthur

Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan confirms that the club have turned down Leicester City's £5m bid for midfielder James McArthur.

Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan has revealed that the club have rejected a £5m bid from Leicester City for midfielder James McArthur.

Leicester manager Nigel Pearson is said to have turned his attention to the 26-year-old after growing frustrated in his pursuit of former Inter Milan midfielder Esteban Cambiasso.

Whelan has hinted that he would consider selling McArthur if the Foxes return with an improved offer for the Scotland international.

"We received a bid from Leicester and we've given them our reply this morning – he's not for sale at that price," Whelan told The Telegraph.

"Our number one priority is the club, the second is the player, and we always look at things in that order.

"I wouldn't stand in the way of anybody wanting to playing in the Premier League, though, so we'll see how much Leicester want him."

Burnley are also reportedly interested in signing McArthur.
