Injury-stricken Wigan Athletic cancel pre-season friendly due to lack of players

Wigan forced to cancel friendly

Wigan Athletic manager Uwe Rosler has been forced to cancel a pre-season friendly against SC Wiedenbruck due to a lack of players.

The number of players in the Latics squad has reduced significantly during the summer because of injuries and a lack of signings.

Rosler told reporters: "We came to the decision as the match will stretch the squad. The plan was to rotate the players for the second game and allow the whole squad to get an equal amount of match minutes.

"But circumstances this summer have meant that we already used a number of players for all the games."

Wigan signed Manchester City midfielder Emyr Huws on a six-month loan deal last Tuesday.
