Owen Coyle disappointed by Manchester City goals

Coyle disappointed by Man City goals

Wigan Athletic manager Owen Coyle has admitted that the gulf in class was too much for his side against Manchester City on Tuesday, but is disappointed by the manner in which they conceded some of the goals.

The Latics were battered 5-0 by the Citizens at the Etihad Stadium in the third round of the Capital One Cup.

"We worked ever so hard, playing against one of the elite clubs of world football, let alone English football," Coyle told reporters. "They made 10 changes and their team was probably worth about £200m.

"There is no getting away from it, we knew it was a tough ask. As if their starting line up wasn't enough, I think the three subs they brought on probably added another £100m to the tally, but I am disappointed to lose by any margin of goals.

"We gave away really soft goals. We can learn from that. It was important we got through unscathed in terms of injury and hopefully we have."

Wigan travel to Watford in the Championship on Saturday.
