Gold reveals West Ham striker search

West Ham United co-owner David Gold has revealed that the club are looking to bring in a striker before the end of the transfer window

The Hammers have added Andy Carroll to their ranks this summer, but Gold said that they are still looking to add a forward to their squad before the window shuts on September 2.

"We're still short of a striker, (fellow co-owner) David Sullivan agrees with me, (manager) Sam Allardyce agrees with me but until we release the wages, there's little we can do," Gold told Sky Sports News.

"We can still [do some business] in the next couple of weeks, so we'll see what will happen."

West Ham recently signed Stewart Downing from Liverpool for £6m and Gold thinks that the price was a 'steal'.

Gold added: "We've stolen him; £6m for such a talented England international, it is outstanding. He made his cameo appearance on Saturday and he is a fantastic addition to the squad."

West Ham began their Premier League campaign with a 2-0 win over newly-promoted Cardiff City on Saturday.
