Jack Wilshere: 'West Ham United keen for fast start to Premier League season'

Midfielder Jack Wilshere says that he and his West Ham United teammates are keen to avoid a slow start to the season, despite major changes to the first-team squad.

Midfielder Jack Wilshere has suggested that West Ham United can have no excuses for a slow start to the season.

New Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini has already added seven new players to his first-team squad, while hinting that more could be on the way before the end of the window.

However, Wilshere has said that the East Londoners are working towards trying to be ready for their Premier League opener against Liverpool at Anfield on August 12.

At a press conference, the 26-year-old told reporters: "Training is getting better and better and I think the quality each week is going up, We've concentrated a lot on fitness before now but I think we can really start to work on how we want to start the season now.

"We've added a few new players, but we've also got players who are West Ham through and through - the captain is going to help the players settle in and he can help me.

"We want to be hitting the ground running, we don't want to take time to settle in, we've got a big first game of the season with Liverpool away, it's one of the most difficult places to go so we need to be ready for that."

Wilshere made his debut for the club during the pre-season friendly away at Preston North End last weekend.
