Tony Pulis tells Tottenham Hotspur target Saido Berahino to stay at Hawthorns

Tony Pulis says that West Brom striker Saido Berahino will develop into a stronger player if he stays at The Hawthorns for one more season.

West Bromwich Albion boss Tony Pulis has recommended that striker Saido Berahino stay at The Hawthorns this summer to complete his football education.

The 22-year-old, who netted 20 times last term, has been heavily linked with a switch to Tottenham Hotspur before the transfer window closes on September 1.

"At the moment, Saido is with us," he told reporters. "We are very pleased he is with us and we are hoping he will stay with us.

"He is a good player and we want him to stay at the football club.

"I believe another year playing regular football at West Brom will make him a better player. It will make him a stronger character and better player, that is my opinion."

The Baggies open their Premier League campaign by hosting 2013-14 champions Manchester City tonight.
