Jorge Mendes to help Valencia sign Mauro Icardi?

Valencia are reportedly in pole position to sign Inter Milan forward Mauro Icardi on loan.

The Argentine is widely expected to leave Inter before Monday night's transfer deadline, with the attacker being told that he has no future at the club under Antonio Conte.

Atletico Madrid have been linked with a swoop, although Diego Simeone remained coy when questioned on his team's chances of landing the South American before the transfer window slams shut.

According to Tribuna Deportiva, super agent Jorge Mendes, who has a close relationship with Valencia owner Peter Lim, is currently heading up negotiations over a switch to the Mestalla.

The 26-year-old has also been linked with both Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco this summer, with the striker surplus to requirements at San Siro.

Icardi scored 17 times in all competitions for Inter last season despite the speculation surrounding his future, while he has netted 124 goals in 219 games in total for the Serie A giants.
