Valencia beat Rayo Vallecano 4-1 to go third in La Liga.

Valencia have overtaken Malaga to go third in La Liga with a 3-1 victory over Rayo Vallecano.

The hosts opened the scoring five minutes before the break when Jonas found the net from inside the box.

Their lead was doubled after 70 minutes thanks to Jordi Alba, who latched on to Sofiane Feghouli's cross from the right-hand side.

Rayo Vallecano were back in the game two minutes later after Michu teed up Diego Costa to score from close range.

However, Valencia's two-goal cushion was restored in the 77th minute, when Alejandro Arribas brought down Feghouli in the box.

The referee pointed to the spot and Jones stepped up to take his tally for the night to two.

Pablo added another goal two minutes from time to put the icing on the cake at the Mestalla.
