Team News: Jordan Henderson, James Maddison start for England against Ukraine

Henderson, Maddison start for England against Ukraine

Jordan Henderson and James Maddison have both made the starting lineup for England's Euro 2024 qualifier against Ukraine in Wroclaw.

Al Ettifaq midfielder Henderson retains the trust of Gareth Southgate despite his highly controversial move to Saudi Arabia, which has seen him denounced by a leading LGBTQ+ England supporters group.

The former Liverpool man lines up in a midfield triumvirate with Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham, while Tottenham Hotspur hotshot Maddison will seemingly take up the left-wing spot following a strong start to the campaign with the Lilywhites.

Bukayo Saka and Harry Kane unsurprisingly join Maddison in the final third, as Marcus Rashford warms the bench, while the uncapped Eddie Nketiah has not made the squad.

Harry Maguire also retains his spot amid his continued troubles at Manchester United, and Crystal Palace's Marc Guehi has won the battle to partner him, with Levi Colwill named among the replacements.

Meanwhile, all of Mykhaylo Mudryk, Ilya Zabarnyi and Oleksandr Zinchenko have been named in the starting XI for Ukraine, with the latter taking up his familiar midfield role in national team colours.

Ukraine: Bushchan; Konoplya, Zabarnyi, Matvienko, Mykolenko; Zinchenko, Stepanenko; Tsygankov, Sudakov, Mudryk; Yaremchuk Subs: Trubin, Lunin, Mykhailichenko, Kryvtsov, Sydorchuk, Yarmolenko, Dovbyk, Buyalskyi, Vanat, Popov, Nazaryna, Karavayev

England: Pickford; Walker, Guehi, Maguire, Chilwell; Henderson, Rice, Bellingham; Saka, Kane, Maddison Subs: Johnstone, Ramsdale, Trippier, Colwill, Tomori, Dunk, Phillips, Eze, Gallagher, Foden, Rashford, Wilson
