Anelka returns to Mumbai City as player-manager

Nicolas Anelka has joined Indian Super League side Mumbai City FC as a player-manager.

The former Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool striker replaces Peter Reid in the dugout, while also prolonging his playing career in a second stint at the club.

An ex-teammate of Anelka, Freddie Ljunberg, was announced as Mumbai's marquee player last season, but that role now belongs to the Frenchman who will pocket an increased wage.

Anelka was part of the Shanghai Shenhua coaching staff in 2012, lasting one season before making a short-term return to European football.
