Spurs Ladies vs. Aston Villa - prediction, team news, lineups

Tottenham Hotspur Ladies will welcome Aston Villa Women to Brisbane Road for Sunday's Women's Super League contest.

Spurs are currently sitting in sixth place with 19 points to their name, while the Villans are six points further back in eighth position.

Match preview

After beginning 2024 with a 4-3 win over West Ham United, Tottenham have had to settle for a point from their last two league outings.

Spurs were beaten 2-0 in their home meeting with Manchester City, before they conceded a stoppage-time equaliser to draw against Liverpool in their most recent WSL fixture.

Although they have won just two of their last nine league games, Tottenham can still be pleased with their efforts this season, having already surpassed their 18-point tally from the 2022-23 campaign.

Spurs are also into the quarter-finals of the FA Cup after Kit Graham came off the bench to score the decisive goal in last Saturday's 1-0 win against Championship side Charlton Athletic.

They will look to build upon that result this weekend as they go in search of a league double over Aston Villa after recording a 4-2 victory when the two sides met in October.

Aston Villa were knocked out of the FA Cup by Everton last month, but the Villans did enjoy success in their most recent outing against Brighton & Hove Albion in the League Cup.

The Villans played out a 1-1 draw with the Seagulls, before they held their nerve from the penalty spot to win the subsequent shootout and set up a semi-final clash with current holders Arsenal.

After having plenty of time to reflect upon their quarter-final success, Aston Villa will turn their attention to Sunday's league fixture, where they will attempt to claim their fifth league win of the season.

Although they lost to Spurs earlier in the season, the Villans will be encouraged by the fact that they have taken four points from their last two away games against Tottenham.

They have also fared reasonably well in their recent road trips, having won three of their last five away matches in the WSL.

Team News

Tottenham are set to be without the services of Ashleigh Neville and Drew Spence, although the latter is closing in on a return to action.

After missing the last two matches, midfielder Ramona Petzelberger is expected to be fit and ready to take up a place on the bench

Spurs manager Robert Vilahamn is likely to recall Barbora Votikova, Amy Turner, Martha Thomas and Graham after the quartet dropped down to the bench against Charlton.

As for the visitors, they are unable to call upon defender Lucy Parker and midfielder Lucy Staniforth, who both remain sidelined with injury issues.

Aston Villa boss Carla Ward has also revealed that Kenza Dali and Ebony Salmon are both doubts due to illness and injury respectively.

Rachel Daly will serve the second game of a three-match suspension that was retrospectively handed out for violent conduct in Aston Villa's draw against Bristol City earlier this month.

Tottenham Hotspur Ladies possible starting lineup: Votikova; Grant, Turner, Bartrip, Nilden; Bizet, Summanen, Graham, Clinton; England, Thomas

Aston Villa Women possible starting lineup: Van Domselaar; Mayling, Patten, Turner, Pacheco; Nobbs, Corsie, Magill; Lehmann, Leon, Hanson

We say: Tottenham Hotspur Ladies 2-1 Aston Villa Women

With Aston Villa unable to call upon a few key players, we think that Tottenham could take advantage to claim a narrow victory and complete a league double over Sunday's opponents.
