Following their late implosion last season, AC Milan must now look to rebuild under new management, and their new Serie A campaign will start with Sunday's trip to Torino.
It has been a summer of change in the red half of Milan, so Ruben Amorim's new-look side will aim to impress in Turin.
Match preview
Soon after the high of doing a derby double over Inter for the first time since 2011, Milan's 2025-26 season completely collapsed while their old foes comfortably claimed the Scudetto.
Six defeats from their last 10 league games saw the Rossoneri miss out on qualifying for the Champions League, sparking an instant cull of the club's management.
With Max Allegri's second spell abruptly ended after just one year, Amorim was hired to turn things around, allied to numerous changes in both the squad and the boardroom.
The ex-Manchester United boss started off with a 2-2 draw against Celtic, before playing out a stalemate with Inter in Australia, then losing to Chelsea and beating United.
Amorim used those friendlies to finesse his much-discussed tactics and integrate new players such as club-record buy Goncalo Ramos, but the serious action begins on Sunday.
Despite their decline, Milan actually won 11 of 19 top-flight away games last term, including a dramatic comeback to beat Torino 3-2 - Amorim will be desperate for a similar result this weekend.
Though Torino have lost just two of their last 13 home matches against Milan, one was an ugly 7-0 thrashing and the other was that clash last December.
Until Roberto D'Aversa stepped in as interim manager a few weeks later, Toro had a dismal home record, but he eventually turned things around and kept them safe from relegation.
Ending with a derby draw against Juventus on the final matchday, they were unbeaten in their last six fixtures at Stadio Olimpico Grande, picking up 14 points and scoring at least twice on each occasion.
The Granata ultimately finished 12th, but D'Aversa walked away and new boss Ignazio Abate has been left to repair what was the league's second-worst defence.
After beating Burnley at the start of August, his team defeated Vado and Avellino in their final pre-season friendlies, before booking a home tie in round two of the Coppa Italia.
Having seen off Carrarese last week, Torino will soon host Monza in the cup, but Abate must first face his old club on Serie A's opening matchday.

Team News
Summer signings Diego Moreira, Mario Gila and Ramos should all be available to make their Milan debut, with the latter set to start up front.
Across three seasons with Paris Saint-Germain, Ramos registered a goal ratio of one every 120 minutes, so he will be expected to fare better than Christopher Nkunku and Santi Gimenez, the latter of whom is currently injured.
Albeit well below his best, Rafael Leao was still the Rossoneri's top scorer last term with nine goals, but the winger is currently struggling with a muscular problem and could be heading for the exit.
After agreeing to stay another year, veteran schemer Luka Modric will pull the strings in Amorim's favoured 3-4-2-1 formation.
Former Milan defender Abate may select a similar setup for Torino, having done so against Carrarese in the Coppa Italia and most of pre-season.
Ex-Ajax midfielder Kian Fitz-Jim should make his Serie A debut, alongside Swiss centre-back Eray Comert; after impressing on loan at Juve Stabia, Italy Under-21s wing-back Alessio Cacciamani is also in contention.
Giovanni Simeone - who top-scored with 11 league goals in 2025-26 - will vie with Che Adams, Duvan Zapata and Sandro Kulenovic to lead Toro's attack, though Zapata is a slight fitness doubt.
Torino possible starting lineup:
Mascardi; Comuzzo, Comert, Coco; Pedersen, Fitz-Jim, Gineitis, Cacciamani; Vlasic, Casadei; Simeone
AC Milan possible starting lineup:
Maignan; De Winter, Gila, Pavlovic; Chukwueze, Modric, Rabiot, Bartesaghi; Loftus-Cheek, Saelemaekers; Ramos
We say: Torino 1-1 AC Milan
After a revolution in terms of management and tactics, Amorim's Milan will surely take some time to find their feet.
Torino are also taking a risk by appointing Abate, but he can pick up a point against his old club this week.
