Sheffield Wednesday boss Carlos Carvalhal cools link with Swansea City

Owls boss Carvalhal cools Swansea link

Sheffield Wednesday head coach Carlos Carvalhal has distanced himself from the vacant manager's post at Swansea City.

Swansea are yet to find a replacement for Garry Monk, who was sacked earlier this month after only one win in 11 Premier League games.

Chairman Huw Jenkins has reportedly held talks with former Athletic Bilbao boss Marcelo Bielsa, but Wednesday's Carvalhal has also been linked with the post after impressing in his first season in England.

The Portuguese coach has guided Wednesday to within a point of the Championship playoffs, but when asked about the speculation the 50-year-old insisted that it was just "rumours".

"Probably, because we are playing good football, positive football and scoring goals, this kind of news can happen," Carvalhal told reporters.

"I can say nothing more than this because as you tell me, it's rumours. Rumours are rumours.

"I'm a professional. Professionals don't talk about rumours. I'm preparing a team to play on Saturday, the same way that I prepared last week, with enthusiasm."

Carvalhal also rubbished suggestions that Wednesday could try to sign Emmanuel Adebayor from Tottenham Hotspur.
