Transfer news and rumours: Defender leaves Crystal Palace for new league

Crystal Palace have confirmed that defender Rob Holding has joined Colorado Rapids on a free transfer.

According to the Evening Standard, the former Arsenal centre-back underwent a medical on Wednesday ahead of his move to MLS.

This move brings an end to Holding's disappointing stay at Selhurst Park, which saw him muster just one first-team appearance.

The 29-year-old failed to make an impact due to injury issues and a breakdown in the relationship with manager Oliver Glasner.

After being deemed surplus to requirements, Holding was sent on loan to Sheffield United in the second half of last season, making 11 appearances during his brief time with the Blades.

The defender has joined an MLS team that are sitting in ninth place in the Eastern Conference after winning eight, drawing six and losing 11 of their 25 matches.

Palace eyeing Drameh transfer

While Holding has left Palace, another defender has been identified as a potential transfer target by the club's recruitment staff.

According to Football Insider, the Eagles have joined the race for Hull City defender Cody Drameh after being left impressed by his displays in pre-season.

The report claims that the Eagles have already made contact over a potential deal to bring the 23-year-old to Selhurst Park.

Drameh is also believed to be attracting interest from a number of EFL sides, leaving Hull in a fight to retain the full-back who can play either side of the defence.

With that said, the Tigers should be in a strong negotiating position after only signing Drameh on a free transfer last summer.

Drameh is under contract until the summer of 2027, with Hull holding an option to extend his deal by a further 12 months.

Sunderland on brink of Roefs signing

Meanwhile, Sunderland have reportedly reached an agreement to sign NEC goalkeeper Robin Roefs.

Sunderland have been busy strengthening their squad since winning promotion via the Championship playoffs.

The Black Cats have splashed the cash to recruit Granit Xhaka, Noah Sadiki, Enzo Le Fee, Habib Diarra, Simon Adingra and Chemsdine Talbia, while Reinildo Mandava has arrived on a free transfer from Atletico Madrid.

According to Sky Sports News, Sunderland are now on the verge of adding a new goalkeeper to Regis Le Bris squad.

The update claims that they have reached an agreement with NEC to sign Roefs for an initial £9m plus £2.5m in add-ons.

Roefs, who will sign a long-term contract, is set to replace Anthony Patterson as the club's number one, casting doubt over the 25-year-old's future at the Stadium of Light.
