Sunderland youngster Martin Smith extends contract

Martin Smith has signed a new contract with Sunderland.

The 19-year-old, who joined the Wearsiders aged eight, has featured in all five of the club's Under-21 games this season, during which he has scored one goal.

He is yet to be selected by Gus Poyet for the senior side, but the midfielder has now committed his future to the Stadium of Light until the summer of 2016.

Smith was born in Sunderland and is known to be a boyhood supporter of the Black Cats.
