Sunderland: 'We will move on quickly from Sam Allardyce'

Sunderland insist that they will move on "quickly and decisively" following the departure of manager Sam Allardyce.

Sunderland have released a statement insisting that the club will move on "quickly and decisively" after manager Sam Allardyce left to become England boss.

The Football Association announced the appointment of Allardyce this afternoon on a two-year deal.

Sunderland publicly aired their frustration over the slow pace of the FA's decision-making, complaining that it was disrupting the Premier League club's pre-season schedule.

After the FA's announcement, the Black Cats released a short statement, which read: "Sunderland AFC confirms the departure of Sam Allardyce, who takes up the position of England manager with immediate effect.

"The focus of everyone at Sunderland AFC now is on moving forward quickly and decisively, with the appointment of the club's new manager to be confirmed at the earliest opportunity."

Allardyce joined Sunderland in October and guided the team to top-flight safety.
