Sunderland announce reduction in price of season tickets for 2016-17

Sunderland announce a drop in cost for season tickets for the 2016-17 campaign.

Sunderland have announced that the price of season tickets will be reduced for the 2016-17 campaign.

Adult tickets will begin from £350, which works out at an average of £18 per Premier League game at the Stadium of Light.

Fans aged 65 or older will be charged £250 for a season ticket, while young adults under 22 years old will pay £170 and fans 16 and under will have to fork out £375.

The rising cost of football has been in the headlines of late after around 10,000 Liverpool fans staged a walkout during a league game as protest against the club's plans to charge £77 for a category A matchday ticket next season.

Due to the outrage, the club's American owners Fenway Sports Group apologised and opted to freeze prices for the next two seasons.

"Keeping the cost of watching football at a realistic level is something that is very topical at present, but for us it has always been top of our agenda," said Sunderland chief executive Margaret Byrne.

"We know that the fans are what make this football club great and we hope that as many as possible will continue to have the opportunity to come to games and support the team."

Sunderland are currently one point off safety in the top flight.
