Jack Colback hoping for midfield run

Sunderland's Jack Colback reveals that he is hoping to continue in midfield under new manager Gus Poyet.

Sunderland's Jack Colback has revealed that he is happy to be back in midfield under new manager Gus Poyet.

The 24-year-old was used mostly as a left-back by former boss Paolo Di Canio before the Italian's departure last month.

However, Colback is now hoping to stay in his preferred position after featuring for the Black Cats in their 2-1 win over Newcastle United in the Premier League on Sunday.

"I'm a midfielder and that's where I want to be, so hopefully I can get a run in the team there," he told the Sunderland Echo.

"The manager didn't even have to ask. He said he knew I wasn't a left-back, although I don't know whether that was a compliment or not!

"But he said I'm going to be playing midfield now and it's up to me to show I'm good enough in training and in games."

Sunderland continue their bid for survival on Saturday when they make the trip to Hull City.
