Adam Johnson released on bail following arrest

Sunderland winger Adam Johnson has been released on bail following his arrest on suspicion of sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl.

The 27-year-old England international was detained by Durham Police on Monday.

Sunderland later confirmed that Johnson had been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.

A police officer later emerged from Peterlee station and told reporters that Adam Johnson had been bailed and was no longer there. #safc

Under the terms of his release, Johnson will have to return for police questioning at a later date.
