Bridcutt: Sunderland "need to be better"

Liam Bridcutt has conceded that Sunderland have plenty of improvements to make in the wake of their 1-0 victory over Leeds United in the FA Cup this afternoon.

The hosting Black Cats dominated most of the tie at the Stadium of Light, but a first-half strike from Patrick van Aanholt was all that they had to show for their efforts.

Taking that into consideration, Bridcutt has insisted that the team's performances "need to be better".

"It is always a tough game in the FA Cup and we knew that heading into it, so we're pleased with the win and we're all looking forward to the next round," the midfielder told the club's official website.

"It was important to get the win but we know that it should have been more comfortable, so we're a little disappointed with our performance in the second half and we need to be better."

Sunderland have won the FA Cup twice before in their history, back in 1937 and 1973.
