Stuttgart, Mainz ends all square

Stuttgart and Mainz 05 share a 2-2 draw in the Bundesliga.

Stuttgart and Mainz 05 played out an entertaining 2-2 draw on the final day of the Bundesliga season.

Chinedu Ede had given Mainz the lead before a Christian Wetklo own goal and a Arthur Boka strike turned the game around.

Nicolai Muller found an equaliser for the visitors to ensure that both teams finished with a point.

It was the visitors who made the brighter start when Ede was played into the box by Muller, but the former's effort went high and wide to the right of the goal in the third minute.

Andreas Ivanschitz came fractions away from breaking the deadlock in the 10th minute, when his curling strike from the edge of the penalty area rattled the crossbar.

However, the away side's pressure paid off in the 16th minute when Ede's left-footed shot from the middle of the box found the bottom corner to give Mainz the lead.

Their advantage lasted just six minutes before Wetklo headed the ball into his own net to draw Stuttgart level.

The home side turned the game around in the 33rd minute when Boka shot across goal into the bottom corner to put Stuttgart in front.

However, Mainz found a leveller just before half time when Muller slammed home from close range to take the two teams into the break at level pegging.

Ede came close to giving Mainz the lead for a second time just after half time, but his shot from distance went just wide.
