Serie A champions AC Milan reportedly express their interest in signing Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Davinson Sanchez.

AC Milan have reportedly expressed their interest in signing Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Davinson Sanchez.

Last month, the Serie A champions were allegedly in discussions with Spurs over a proposed loan move for Sanchez's teammates Japhet Tanganga.

However, a deal for the Englishman to move to San Siro now appears to be off as both clubs have failed to reach an agreement.

Calciomercato now claims that Milan have turned their attention to 26-year-old Sanchez, who has been on the club's radar for the last two seasons.

The report adds that the Italian giants will step up their interest in the Colombia international later in the transfer window if sporting director Paulo Maldini is unable to find a better alternative.

Milan are thought to be interested in a proposed loan deal for Sanchez with an option to buy the defender on a permanent basis next summer.

The report also states that Sanchez would be open to a move away from North London as he "does not like Antonio Conte very much".

Since joining from Ajax for a reported £42m in the summer of 2017, Sanchez has made a total of 180 appearances for Tottenham across all competitions, scoring five times and providing one assist.

However, the Colombian has struggled for regular game time in the last few seasons and appears to have fallen down the pecking order since the arrival of Conte as head coach in November last year.

Cristian Romero, Eric Dier and Ben Davies were all preferred to Sanchez at centre-back in the second half of last season, with the latter ending the campaign with just 17 Premier League starts to his name.

Conte began with the same trio for their 4-1 victory over Southampton on the opening weekend of the new season, while summer arrival Clement Lenglet – who has joined on loan from Barcelona – came on as a substitute, with Sanchez forced to watch on from the bench.

Ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar later this year, Sanchez could now be tempted by the prospect of regular first-team football with Milan, who like Spurs are competing in the Champions League this term.

Milan are looking to bolster their defensive options after allowing Alessio Romagnoli to run down his contract and leave San Siro as a free agent.

The Rossoneri have strengthened in attack and at right-back so far this summer, with Charles De Ketelaere, Divock Origi, Junior Messias and Alessandro Florenzi all moving to San Siro on permanent deals, but they are yet to recruit a new centre-back to replace Romagnoli.

The potential arrival of Sanchez, who has two years remaining on his Spurs contract, could see him partner former Chelsea man Fikayo Tomori at the heart of Stefano Pioli's backline.
