Tottenham Hotspur lead chase for free agent Rio Ferdinand?

Spurs lead race for Ferdinand?

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly emerged as leading contenders to sign Rio Ferdinand on a free transfer this summer following his release from Manchester United.

The former England international will leave Old Trafford after 12 years following the club's decision not to offer the centre-back a new deal.

While Queens Park Rangers were thought to be an option for Ferdinand, manager Harry Redknapp has admitted that he is unlikely to lure the defender to Loftus Road.

According to The Express, Tottenham, who appointed former Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino as manager yesterday, are preparing a move for the 35-year-old due to the uncertain future of Jan Vertonghen.

Ferdinand is also said to have attracted interest from MLS side Los Angeles Galaxy and Turkish outfit Galatasaray.
